Bio

George Manson is from the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation. He lives on Meares Island, across from Tofino, BC, in the small village of Opitsat.

George uses traditional designs in his wood carvings and paintings. Many of his pieces show transformation designs, such as wolf transforming into killer whale (the wolf of the sea) or Four Directions (Hummingbird/Human Transformation).

George shares his talent by giving demonstrations and workshops to children. He is a prolific carver, producing all manner of animals and paddles.

Artist Statement

"Over the years, I've developed a style of my own, carving little spirit faces within many of my creations. My transformation pieces are inspired by my own personal growth...always transforming as a person and an artist."
