Bio

The love of drawing and working with colour started at an early age for Signy Cohen. Growing up in an artistic home, Signy had the freedom and encouragement to explore different mediums and expressions of creativity.

Signy attended Vancouver School of Art, Capilano College and Malaspina College where her interests were in drawing, printmaking and sculpture.

Coloured pencil drawings on engraved paper has been Signy's signature medium. The coloured pencil lends itself well to the many commissioned portraits, as does her graphite portraits created for yearly Sports Hall of Fame inductees. Signy is also an internationally published illustrator; her graphic work can be seen in many books and magazines. Recently, Signy is re-estabishing herself as a print maker, along with exploring her passion for working in oils. Her large oil paintings express impressionistic flowing movement and the reflected light of water.

Signy Cohen is the founder and director of Reflecting Spirit Gallery Inc. Tofino and recently opened another gallery in Ucluelet.
