6' Gray Whale, Left
Carved out of western red cedar, by Metchosin, BC artist Norm Moyen, this six foot long gray whale wood sculpture is designed for wall mounting.
This left facing whale figure is carved from a single piece of Red Cedar. Once carved it is burned, a unique technique that softens the lines and brings out the grain and character of the wood. The burnt area is then brushed clean, highlighting the high and low textures of the wood grain which are visual and also tactile inviting the whale's body surface to be stroked. The wood burning leaves a dark finish. An inlaid pebble accents the whale's eye.
