Sea Otters Playing In Kelp

As a commercial fisherman, Kwakuitl First Nation carver and artist Cecil Dawson enjoyed watching sea otters at play in the coastal waters off Vancouver Island. Often he would anchor his boat in a kelp patch as they played; he enjoyed seeing them close up. This painted relief carving was inspired by his missing the sea and remembering.
