Seal with Eye of the Future
Snaw-naw-as First Nation artist and master carver Brian Bob of Nanoose, BC hand carved this seal from yellow cedar wood. Inside the belly of the seal is an image of an 'eye to the future'. The artist has used abalone shell to embellish the eyes both on the seal head as well as the 'eye' in its belly. Brian used a brown stain to finish this piece. The seal is a perfect example of Brian's combining traditional and fluid contemporary carving styles.
