Tofino Trees
Great cedar tree snags are natural sculptural formations standing among the landscapes of the Pacific North West Coast. These snags can be seen in and around the Tofino and Clayoquot Sound areas. They stand as monuments and reminders of the Ancient Old Growth Rainforests that once stood on Vancouver Island.
When alive, these native West Coast trees grow new cells in a spiral pattern. The fan-like flattened scale needles (leaves) also grew in a spiral pattern so not to block the sun from the older leaves. The spiral growth directs rain and rainforest dew to towards the tree root system. This spiral growth is 1.618, the Golden Ratio
Artist Didymus Bernadotte artistically recreates the west coast trees in his paintings within the discipline of the mathematical formula of the Golden Ratio.
