Wolf Feasting Dish
A crest figure carved from Western red cedar by Kwakwaka'wakw Nation master carver Cecil Dawson. Wolf represents the artist's mother's side of the family, in which it is believed an ancestor transformed from wolf to human form. During a feast, this dish would contain money to distribute to the guests, while informing all who their host was. The chief would reach into the bowl as a symbol of the wealth of that crest and then distribute it to the guests.
