"Mackerel Mayhem was inspired by a huge school of Mackerel that swam past me while I stood out on the rocks in the Broken Group taking photos of their progress. In these photos the Mackerel are distorted by the water ripples and reflections creating all sorts of comic and surreal distortions." - Shannon McWhinney -

Shannon under-paints the basic details in acrylic paint, then works back over the painting in oils for the finer details, colour blends and bolder colours.
