Bio

Trained in wood joinery and cabinetry, Peter Lewadnuk was naturally drawn to working with wood and befriended local Ucluelet wood carver Terry McKinnon, helping him with his larger carving projects.

Encouraged by his new friend, Peter started carving eagle feathers, inspired by the numersous eagles around Terry's wood carving shed on the waterfront. Eagles' strength and majesty appeal to Peter; they seem to represent a kind of freedom.

He hand carves his feathers from recycled Western Red Cedar, each segment of wood unique in colour variation and grain pattern. Real eagle feathers are used as models, making every completed piece one of a kind. The cedar feathers are then finished with a lacquer seal to protect them from moisture.
