Bio

Liisa studied Art in Ontario at the College of Art and Doon School of Fine Arts. After her family was grown, Liisa began painting. She continues to paint in acrylics and watercolours, also finding expression through drawing with pen & ink and coloured pencils.

Liisa’s Stone Pix (stone etchings) came about as the result of a waking dream and her marriage to soapstone sculptor John McInnis. Having come from a Finnish family of stone masons and carvers, Liisa always wanted to carve in stone. John became her best teacher and mentor. Utilizing smaller pieces of soapstone, Liisa was able to bring her drawing skills to the medium of stone via scrimshaw technique, scribing images of wildlife on highly polished soapstone slabs and hearts. West coast marine life is a favourite subject as are dragonflies, frogs, hummingbirds and owls. Each Stone Pic is a hand-scribed piece of original artwork.

Liisa is has become a recognized soapstone carver; her sculptures and stone etchings are in collections throughout the world.

Liisa and John live in the Port Alberni Valley countryside on Vancouver Island where they devote their time to their arts. They have 3 dogs, 3 cats, several chickens and pekin ducks. Liisa enjoys greenhouse gardening and growing producefor the local Farmer's Market.
