Bio

Raised in Ucluelet, B.C. on the wild west coast of Vancouver Island, Joshua Smolders' imagination was captured at a young age by the powerful ocean and majestic cedar forests.

Joshua's artistic exploration began with the world of cartooning. As a young boy, his big dream was to become a Disney animator. In his early teens, however, Joshua began experimenting with different artistic mediums. He fell in love with painting landscapes and wildlife. His first canvas painting was of an old cedar snag that overlooked the harbour near his home.

Joshua's current focus is on acrylic seascapes and landscapes. Inspired by a longing and love for the wild, he depicts the power of the sea and the ancient strength of the forest. Through his art, Joshua hopes to share his love for this Coast and inspire others to help preserve its beauty.
