Old Man Cedar
'Old Man Cedar' is a towering ancient cedar snag near Fletcher's Beach, Ucluelet,BC. It is a lone survivor of the surrounding logged forest. This tree stands like an elderly sage surrounded by younger generations of cedar, pine and spruce. An acrylic painting on canvas that expresses an essence experienced on the Pacific West Coast by Ucluelet artist Joshua Smolders. The tree is painted with a plethora of knots, cracks and mossy humps that cover the old snag giving personality and the age of an elder sage.
The painted image continues around the sides of the canvas for hanging without a frame.
