Bio
Shannon McWhinney is an accomplished artist based in Ucluelet, British Columbia, whose work is deeply inspired by the vibrant energy of the West Coast.
With each brushstroke, she brings the rich, dynamic landscapes of the region to life, drawing from the inspiration from the diverse wildlife and the breathtaking natural environment she encounters daily.
Storytelling is at the heart of Shannon's creative practice. She captures the essence of fleeting moments, infusing her paintings with the emotional depth and energy of her encounter with wildlife. She uses primarily acrylic paint on canvas to create intricate harmonious works of art that are marked by rhythmic lines, vibrant colours and a fluid, illustrative quality. Each piece is a reflection of the organic beauty she witnesses in her everyday surroundings, a visual narrative that invites the viewer to experience the world through her eyes.
Shannon's creative process often begins with photographs taken during her outdoor adventures - whether walking through the forest, kayaking along the coastline, or paddleboarding across serene waters. these photographs serve as a foundation for her paintings allowing her to explore and expand upon the emotions and energy of the moment. lately Shannon has been captivated by the play of reflections on water, the distortions of light, and the expressive qualities of local wildlife, all of which have inspired her to create even more dynamic and evocative works.
Shannon's art is a celebration of the natural world, a testament to the beauty and vitality of the West Coast, and an invitation to experience the wild, untamed energy of this unique world.
She is represented by Reflecting Spirit Gallery, in Ucluelet B.C. and has exhibited her work in the Okanagan, Ucluelet and Tofino.
