"I love catching glimpses of otters while out kayaking as they have so much personality. This image was primarily created from photos of ocean splashed rocks and branches dripping with mussels as well as a number of photos of otters. The goal was to create a cheeky otter in a vividly coloured impressionistic environment." - Shannon McWhinney -

Shannon under-paints the basic detail in acrylic paint, then works back over the painting in oil for the finishing details, colour blends and bolder colouring.
