Local Interest - People come from around the world to the west coast to watch our black bears in their natural habitat. In early summer, mother bears can be seen feeding on eel grass on the seashore with their cubs. In fall, black bears explore local rivers, fishing for spawning salmon. Grizzly bears are found mostly in BC's central and northern regions. The bear is an important totem figure within local First Nation culture.
