Steller Jay Flying Right
With an abalone shell inlaid eye, this is 'Stellar Jay', hand carved and stained yellow cedar by Snaw-naw-as First Nation artist and master carver Brian Bob of Nanoose, BC. Brian was inspired by the bravery and boldness of Stellar Jay. When Brian went camping, jays would boldly approach and steal food left on the picnic table. After carving this bird in flight - a profile image - Brian applied the abalone and a unique blue stain to communicate the natural colouring of the wild bird.
