This jewel-of-the-forest keepsake box was created from a rare Arbutus root burl found on an island off the Pacific West Coast of British Columbia. The burl weighed 3000 pounds. One of the many methods used in the attempt to remove it from the ground was burning. This did not work well because of the hardness and dampness of the wood, which eventually had to be chainsawed into smaller chunks. Artistically, the burning left a wonderful fingerprint of designs and patterns created by the extreme changes of heat in the wood which caused its grain to shrink and fracture.

Keepsake box Interior 8" x 4 1/2" long - 6 1/2" wide x 5 1/2" deep with a soft dark brown faux fur lining.
The bottom of the box is covered in leather for furniture protection
