Naikoon (Rose Spit Looking Southwest)-Haida Gwaii

Rose Spit is a long finger of sand on the Northeast corner of Haida Gwaii. It is a sacred place to the Haida people who inhabit the area. It is believed that Raven first found and freed man from a clam shell on this stretch of beach. As depicted in Bill Reid's Raven and the First Men.

This perspective is looking Southwest, from in the water back to land as the tide comes in from both the East and the West to cover the spit. A small glimpse of land can be seen in the lower center which is Naikoon Provincial Park.

RIKA is an artist who's work focuses on the Pacific Northwest, his locations are beaches and breaks found along this wild and turbulent coast that are favored by surfers for their waves as well as places of special importance to himself. He hopes his art that his art will give these areas further value and appreciation and be a contributor in keeping them Wild, Protected and Free.
