Print - Kimoto Tree Spring Cove

This open edition series of prints was created with the intention of serving as keepsakes for those visiting the wild Pacific coast. The selected images capture some of my favorite spots and views of the Pacific Rim, inspired by my upbringing in this breathtaking environment.

KIMOTO TREE

The "Kimoto Tree" silhouette holds profound significance for our family, as it stands atop rocks just off Francis Island--the view from our family property and the nearby beach, looking south/southeast. Resembling the aesthetic of a bonsai and situated in such a unique location, it has become a local landmark affectionately known as the Kimoto Tree.
For decades, I have consistently incorporated this iconic image into my artistic repertoire. Beginning in childhood and continuing into my years as an emerging and professional artist, I have produced at least one original painting of the Kimoto Tree each year. This enduring creative practice not only reflects my deep-rooted connection to the tree and its surroundings, but also serves as a visual tribute to the natural beauty that has shaped my artistic journey. The Kimoto Tree stands as a timeless muse, a symbol of continuity, and a source of inspiration embedded in the fabric of my artistic expression.

Growing up in this coastal region, I have always been captivated by the beauty of the trees--how they grow, persevere, and are shaped by the extreme coastal weather, including rain and wind. Additionally, I've developed a profound appreciation for the layering of silhouettes against our skies. As a result, some of these prints emphasize the simplicity of these natural elements.
The original black and white prints are crafted using various mediums, ranging from photography to digital painting to pen and ink. To ensure longevity, they are printed on archival paper with archival inks, promising a lasting legacy that should endure for decades. Each print aims to encapsulate the essence and charm of the Pacific coast, allowing visitors to carry a piece of this awe-inspiring landscape with them. - Katsumi Kimoto -
