The West Coast Story
"It’s been a wild ride so far in 2020 to say the least - it truly feels like the age of extremes as we navigate this dualistic dimension and battle conflicting forces. The whole earth has become so connected, yet divided; so positive and loving, yet fearful; so excited, yet anxious. It’s the moment that so many of us have been predicting and waiting for: perched on the edge of a new world, holding space, coming back to our breath, remembering who we are and what we came here to accomplish. This pause is so much more than a virus - it’s a chance to come together and write a new story. Sitting down in the West Kootenays this past Winter with a blank canvas, I began this new series of paintings with these thoughts burning in my mind. I had no set plan for this piece and let the brushes unravel my turbulent emotions as I soared high with love and dove deep into the collective fear. This piece along with the other five play with these contrasting light and dark forces. They use shadows, smoke and mist to blur the lines of reality. The campfire symbolizes the light we are all carrying forward as a collective, and the warmth and safety that lies deep within us. There’s never been a more important time to reconnect with ourselves, nurture those embers and shine bright on this Earth."
