"From Wickaninnish to Long Beach is one massive sandy beach and almost right in the middle lays Green Point, just north of Combers Beach. What I love about this stretch of the coast is that it is often overlooked and untouched. No million dollar homes on its banks, no bustling resorts, no buses bursting at the seams with tourists. As a child until an adult I grew up here, playing, climbing, and hiking these rocks, surfing these waters, and exploring the endless amounts of colourful and lively tide pools. I imagine this area as being exactly the same as it has always been with little evidence of the hand of man. It’s places like this that I find myself imagining what goes on here during the night, or early in the morning when it’s quiet. I imagine a scene such as this. A pack of wolves emerging from the timber to scour the tideline for food, first checking tidepools then down to the tideline to see what the recent tide brought in from the Pacific.
I took this photograph on a bluebird day with a slight mist in the air, as my own kids played on these rocks. I liked the balance of cool shades and warm highlights on the driftwood logs cast up onto the rocks by huge winter seas and the hazy background as the eye looks back to Combers Beach and Wickaninnish."
