The West Coast Story
"The Winter months on the West Coast are a time for rest and hibernation, as storms batter the coastline and darkness descends. It’s not until exploring above the thick ceiling of clouds, that you realize a whole new world exists. It’s like entering an middle dimension between heaven and earth, where the crisp clear air breaths life back into your viscous veins. The Buddhists in the Himalayas settled in these higher places because they felt more spiritually connected to the universe. There’s a deep peace and clarity that surrounds these thinner spaces, full of glistening white crystals and warm sunlight. It’s a magical realm that offers a blank canvas of shimmering forests, steep cliffs and soft pillows to carve our edges into. Living in the Kootenays, the mountains are my Winter escape. I’ll spend days hiking the backcountry with friends, searching out perfect untouched chutes and pillow lines. Living in a dualistic dimension, it’s so easy for our minds to get caught up in the struggles of seasonal life. It’s these opportunities to fly above the clouds that remind us of that childish wonder and playful excitement that’s just waiting to rise up from the depths."
