The West Coast Story
"This is my first attempt at mixing airbrush, paint brush and paint pen styles. It’s inspired by one of my favourite places in the Kootenays, Whitewater Basin, where I spend the Winters exploring the endless slopes surrounding Ymir peak on my split-board. I wanted to capture the magic of snowflakes falling through the alpine glow, as the last rays of light kiss the glistening peaks goodnight.
This board is a directional snowboard core that was donated by friends at Kindred Snowboards in Merville, British Columbia (kindredsnowboards.com). Made out of local Balsam and Cedar, it’s the first layer created in the building process and was a fun canvas to work with. I created this piece for the Pacific Board Art Show at the Waverley Hotel in Cumberland B.C. this past Winter. Started by local artists, it’s a project that up-cycles used boards into beautiful art pieces, with 30% of sales going to local environmental charities. "
