The north Pacific population of humpback whales makes long distance migrations and as  they migrate north from the Baja Peninsula to Alaska in March and south again in October, they can be seen in the waters surrounding Ucluelet, Tofino and  Long Beach in Pacific Rim National Park. Inspired by the natural beauty and wildlife of Western Vancouver Island, Allison depicts on this print a humpback whale jumping out of the water.

Humpback Whale is a hand pulled block cut print, printed as an unlimited series on locally sourced Vancouver Island Douglas Fir veneer. The printed image is created by first carving a soft rubber pad to which ink is rolled onto the raised surface. Then the wood veneer is placed on top of the inked surface and pressed, creating an exciting nature image combined with the beauty of the natural wood grain.
