The artist tells us that the Ucluelet Aquarium is also a constant source of inspiration; visiting it allows her to get closer to some of the marine life she could not otherwise study.

Asking her about this specific print, Allison explains to us how it is based on a photograph she took of "Barbara", the resident octopus, while she was being fed. It inspired the artist to capture the movement of rolling tentacles and pulsating body of the octopus. 

'Octopus' is hand printed on locally sourced Vancouver Island Douglas Fir veneer. The printed image is created by first carving a soft rubber pad to which ink is rolled onto the raised surface. Then the wood veneer is placed on top of the inked surface and pressed, creating an exciting nature image combined with the beauty of the natural wood grain.
