Snowy Owl Print
Inspired by the natural beauty of Western Vancouver Island, Allison portrays in her work the wildlife that surrounds her. Snowy owls typically nest north of the treeline, in the tundra and high arctic, and are usually a rare sight in British Colombia. Changes in the arctic food supply has brought snowy owls further south and can now be seen on Vancouver Island.
The owl is also a recurring subject in West Coast First Nation's art for symbolizing wisdom, foresight and the keeper of sacred knowledge.
This Snowy Owl is a hand printed relief block cut print, printed as an unlimited edition on locally sourced Vancouver Island Douglas Fir. To create the printed image, the artist first carves a soft rubber pad and then rolls ink onto the raised surface. Then the wood veneer is placed on top of the inked surface and pressed, creating an exciting nature image combined with the beauty of the natural wood grain.
